Brigalow region of Queensland
This project aims to develop and apply the concepts and methods
of ecosystem services and ecosystem health to the management of
Brigalow remnants with a view to better identifying and quantifying
the range of productive and non-productive values found in this
ecosystem.
Current understanding of the links between the ecosystem services
and health of Brigalow Bioregion remnant vegetation and sustainable
use remains poor, while current agricultural uses continue to
compromise its regional extent and integrity. This project will
build on recent ecological work by the Queensland government and
will develop a framework for applying the concepts of ecosystem
services and health to sustainable land use planning. The research
will construct evaluation and monitoring criteria and indicators
and will establish management guidelines. The project will also
work closely with rural communities and will incorporate social
and economic values of remnant vegetation into guidelines
